Telenor - Digital solutions for reducing inequalities

Telenor is working on smart digital solutions to reduce inequalities in the communities where we operate. One example is the work to enable digital registration of birth certificates in Pakistan to give as many children as possible an identity. In December 2021, Telenor Pakistan and UNICEF handed over the birth certificate system to the authorities in Punjab and Sindh in Pakistan. As a result, more than 2.5 million children have been registered in most parts of Punjab and Sindh.
Telenor also educates children and young people about online safety. One example is Digiworld, a learning tool designed to help children aged 5-16 develop the skills needed to navigate the internet safely. By 2020, 5.3 million children globally have been reached by online safety.
In addition, Telenor is working with the Open Mind initiative. Open Mind is a job training program that opens up employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

Telenor has for many years worked actively to reduce the environmental impact of its operations, mainly focusing on resource management and climate impact. In 2020, ambitious emission targets were adopted. By 2030, our operations in the Nordics will be climate neutral and for operations in Asia, emissions will be reduced by 50%. In 2021, these climate targets were approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). In December 2021, Telenor Sweden was also certified according to ISO 9001 and 14001. This is an important proof that our environmental and quality work is done in the right way and that accountability and improvement work in these areas are hugely important for Telenor Sweden's long-term strategy.
Since 2011, Telenor Sweden has reduced its carbon footprint by 90 percent. In 2018, Telenor Sweden became the first telecom company in the world to carbon offset through the Fairtrade Climate Standard, an initiative that means Telenor takes responsibility for the emissions of its operations while working continuously to reduce them.
