Scam emails and text messages most common online scams

Six out of ten internet users in Sweden say they have been victims of online fraud in the past year. The proportion of victims is the same among men and women, but it is mainly people born in the 70s, 80s and 90s who have been affected.

The data comes from the Swedish Internet Foundation's report Swedes and the Internet 2022. The most common online scams are scam emails and scam text messages, which more than half of internet users have experienced in the past year.

People born in the 1920s and 30s are more likely than others to have been asked by unauthorized persons for codes from their bank card.

People with disabilities have been more affected than others, mainly in terms of being contacted by fake customer support (20%), but also by unauthorized people asking them to log in with Bank ID (6%) or asking for codes (3%).
