Important step for better connectivity on trains
In its report to the government "Better mobile connectivity for train passengers throughout Sweden", the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (PTS) proposes a clearer direction and level of expectation from policy for connectivity on board trains.
- "A clearer political direction makes it easier for all actors to move in step towards a common goal. It also gives market players predictability, which is a key factor in being able to invest in infrastructure," says Robert Liljeström, industry policy expert at TechSverige.
PTS also proposes that the Swedish Transport Administration take an active role in the work and, among other things, review the possibility of establishing better coverage and capacity in tunnels, and investigate how its own infrastructure can be better utilized by other actors for the expansion of mobile coverage.
- "Our hope now is that the government will take the report further as soon as possible. We look forward to the continued work and together being able to contribute to Sweden's train passengers being able to take advantage of the opportunities of digitization on their journeys, says Lina Lagerroth, industrial policy expert at Tågföretagen.
