New Chair of the Data Protection Board

TechSveriges Dataråd has a new chairman. Susanne Lindström is Head of Security and Compliance Global at Tietoevery Connect.

- "Technological development is fast-paced but at the same time a kind of marathon with constant changes. It is important to have a balanced approach, while at the same time realizing that there will never be a definitive finish line, for example in work with cybersecurity, compilation and policy work," says Susanne Lindström.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your background?

- My background is primarily in IT, security and compliance. I have had the great privilege of sitting on the management team of both large and small companies with different orientations. They have given me a 360 degree view from both the company's point of view but also the customers' requirements and challenges.

How did you become interested in digitalization issues?

- I have always been interested in the latest technological developments and how they can be used. From a business perspective, to make the offer more attractive, profitable, forward-looking and more qualitative. How can new technologies attract new skilled and interested employees? How can customers feel more secure and satisfied with their deliveries? When digitalization took off, it became natural for me to learn more about what it really means.

- I am incredibly happy to be an active part of the Data Council. In the past, I have actively raised our customers' challenges in various areas, including through representatives within the EU, but also together with my colleagues actively commented on upcoming legislative proposals and regulations.

What do you hope to contribute as President?

- My hope as chairman is to be able to highlight the importance of clear and harmonized regulations to make it easier for both companies and customers.

What issues do you think will remain in focus in 2023?

- One important area is information and cyber security. This requires clearer cooperation between the private and public sectors and support for many users, as it is complex and skill-intensive," says Susanne Lindström and continues:

- One exciting initiative is the newly established UK National Protective Security Authority (NPSA). Its aim is to help companies and organizations defend themselves against national security threats such as theft of sensitive research and information. We would need to turn the structure in Sweden to be even more proactive and driving in the areas in Sweden where we see risks that could have negative consequences.

- Then I think there will be a lot of focus on what NIS2, the Data Act, the AI Act and other EU issues mean - but also how the new government approaches digitalization policy.

Susanne Lindström succeeds Mikael Eklund, who has been chair of the Data Council since 2019.

- We at TechSverige would like to extend our thanks to Mikael Eklund for a great effort, not only for the Swedish Data Council but for the entire industry, says Fredrik Sand, TechSverige's industrial policy expert.
