DEBATE: The power of innovation could be lost in healthcare
Swedish innovation is globally recognized and Swedish companies rank highest in Europe in the use of digital technology. However, digital development in the Swedish public sector is slower. The business sector is not currently given the opportunity to contribute to welfare in a way that allows quality and benefits to be realized, especially in publicly funded healthcare. This threatens to undermine Sweden's innovative capacity and our international competitiveness - but above all Sweden's ability to use the latest technology in welfare, when patients and citizens need it most.
This is what TechSverige's business policy expert Peter Kjäll writes in a debate article in Dagens Medicin.
- The demographic challenge we are already facing will become acute in the coming years, characterized by skills shortages and a lack of tax base to maintain quality welfare. Current policies offer few opportunities to change the way we work with the support of new technologies to break this trend.
