DEBATE: Set a concrete target: 100,000 more tech specialists by 2030
The skills needs in tech are a national concern. Politicians, authorities, the tech industry, civil society and our educational institutions must act together to get more people, not least girls, to apply for tech professions and future-proof Sweden, writes the industry and employer organization Tech Sweden.
According to a report by Tech Sweden, which brings together around 1 400 IT, telecoms and tech companies, there will be a shortage of 18 000 tech specialists annually by 2028. In addition, broad digital skills need to increase in general. Good access to tech skills is crucial for Sweden.
If we are to maintain our competitiveness and our position as a leading tech nation, it is crucial that we ensure the long-term availability of digital excellence. Tech Sweden believes that the government, in line with other leading tech nations, should set a concrete target: to increase the number of tech specialists by 100,000 by 2030 and work hard to achieve it.
