Vitec's HR partner on TechSverige's new employer service
Prior to the launch of TechSverige's new employer service, Elin Wännman, HR partner at Vitec Software Group, was a member of the reference group. With important input and insights, she has contributed to the work of building a new industry-adapted employer service.
Elin Wännman sees several major advantages with TechSverige's new employer service and is convinced that it will strengthen Vitec as an employer.
- TechSverige has been interested and responsive to our needs and wishes. This means that we feel confident that both the personal advice and the digital support will be even more adapted to our needs.
The great knowledge of the conditions and challenges of tech companies means an increased focus on the issues that are important to Vitec Software.
- And the employment lawyers and negotiators who advise us are specialized in our collective agreement. We also look forward to the developed digital support using generative AI that will make it faster to find relevant information," says Elin Wännman.
She believes that TechSverige's employer service will streamline and quality-assure Vitec's internal processes and working methods.
- By extension, it also helps to strengthen our employer brand, so that we will continue to be perceived as a professional employer.
One of Elin Wännman's most urgent messages through the reference group is the importance of having a designated contact person with high availability.
- A dedicated person who is well read on our collective agreement and who gets to know our organization. We have also raised requests for further development of templates and guides. Having clear and up-to-date support materials creates security for both us and our employees to know that we are working correctly from start to finish. The proposals presented to us in the reference group have usually been exactly what we want TechSverige to focus on in the future - so in most cases it has been enough to cheer on the good work that is already being done.
What other values do you see with a membership in TechSverige?
- We look forward to the opportunity for continued exchange of experience and dialogues with other member companies in the industry. As we have so much in common, there are also great opportunities to make a difference together and influence the future design of collective agreements, laws and regulations based on our needs and challenges.
What are you doing to be an attractive employer?
- At Vitec, our values are the glue that holds us together. The values are very much about a positive view of people, showing trust and taking great personal responsibility. This characterizes our relationships, but it is also the starting point when we set up our organization and our governance model. We don't micromanage, because we know that the best decisions are made as close to the customer as possible. We are also guided in our daily work by our brand promise: To rely on - today and tomorrow. We are and should be to rely on - both as suppliers, employers and colleagues. That word "tomorrow" is important, because it gives us both reason and responsibility to be long-term in everything we do. Whether it is about further developing the products that our customers depend on for their business to function, or whether it is about skills development for our employees.
- It is we employees who together build Vitec, so each of us is important for the company's success. Together we create a culture where we thrive, develop and create value for our customers. We take on challenges and celebrate successes as a team.
How do you work towards a more gender balanced, diverse and inclusive workplace?
- At Vitec, diversity is a natural consequence of the culture of being fact-based, curious and respectful of others. As we are convinced that differences enrich our business, we strive to achieve a gender balance. We are not there yet. Like many companies in our industry, it is a challenge for us, as the proportion of women in IT and computer-related education is still low. But we know that we can make a difference through our ways of working and by raising awareness of ingrained patterns of thinking.
- Our Equality and Inclusion Policy sets out an expectation for managers in the organization to actively promote inclusion by acting as role models and clarifying the responsibility of all of us to share, learn from each other and welcome discussion. We also work on proactive measures to promote diversity and inclusion. For example, we aim to use gender-neutral words and phrases in our advertisements, we use competency-based interviewing techniques focusing on skills and experience to avoid unconscious bias, we offer flexible working hours (within the limits of what is appropriate for the business) to facilitate family life, and when planning and inviting staff to social activities, we make sure that it is suitable for everyone and does not exclude any group.
- We also have a clear action plan for how everyone at Vitec is expected to act if they perceive behavior as non-inclusive, disrespectful, unwelcome and/or offensive. In our management training programs, we clarify the specific responsibilities of leaders to support an inclusive work environment and to act when behaviors are not in line with our Code of Conduct and values.
What do you see as the biggest challenges in the near future?
- One challenge ahead is to secure the supply of skills. There is already a shortage of many specialists, and the gap is only expected to grow in the coming years. For us, this means that we need to become even better at being seen as an employer and telling candidates why they should choose us. Our corporate culture is a strong asset in attracting new employees, but it is also a challenge to retain it as we grow rapidly through acquisitions. We must therefore work actively to ensure that all new employees feel at home in and want to contribute to the common culture.
- Cybersecurity is also high on our agenda, a challenge we take very seriously. We are well equipped today, but rapid developments mean that we must constantly be on our toes and stay one step ahead. To protect both ourselves and our customers, we need to constantly adapt and strengthen our security measures.
