Welcome announcement from the government to strengthen work on digitization

TechSverige welcomes the government's announcement to merge the two authorities, the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (PTS) and the Swedish Agency for Digital Government (DIGG). Through the merger, Sweden will have a single authority in the field of digitization that can increase the pace and support for a secure and competitive Sweden at the digital forefront.

- We welcome the assignment to propose how DIGG's tasks can be transferred to and incorporated into PTS. It is a good signal that the government wants to strengthen Sweden's opportunities to take a leading role in digitization. This is an important step that TechSverige has worked for. We hope that the change will help Sweden to increase its ambitions and become even better at taking advantage of and driving digital development in line with rapid technological development and in close interaction with entrepreneurs and the business community," says Åsa Zetterberg, Director of TechSverige.

TechSverige has in many contexts pointed out the importance of a strong digitization and tech policy and a joint responsibility for the issues.

- Digitization is one of the most important keys to solving major societal challenges, from sustainability and skills supply to increased welfare and competitiveness. The rapid development that is taking place brings both opportunities and challenges. With a unified digitalization authority, we are better equipped for the future, says Åsa Zetterberg.

TechSverige now looks forward to the government launching a new digitization strategy for Sweden as soon as possible and taking on board the AI Commission's important proposals. In combination with a new digitalization authority, which works closely with the business community, it lays an important foundation for the development of a smart and secure Sweden at the digital forefront.
