Debate: EU's proposed e-waste fee risks penalizing reuse
The European Commission is proposing a new tax on uncollected e-waste as part of the EU's long-term budget. The proposal risks disadvantaging countries and companies that are actively working on recycling, repairing and extending the life of electronics - and could thus counteract the transition to a more circular economy.
In a joint opinion piece, representatives of the Swedish business community, including TechSverige's CEO Åsa Zetterberg, call on the government to reject the proposal and instead design instruments that actually promote sustainable behavior.
