What can Stockholm politicians do about the IT skills shortage?

On Monday 26 March, Stockholm IT Region and IT&Telecomföretagen organized a seminar on recruitment needs in the industry.

A panel consisting of Ulla Hamilton (M), representatives of the Swedish Public Employment Service, IBM, IT-maskinen and Katarina Larsson, IT Girl of the Year 2011, discussed, among other things, the question of how politics and the industry can work together to address the skills shortage in the IT field. During the panel discussion, it was noted that the industry has a responsibility to concretely show what IT jobs actually are and mean and that cooperation between companies and schools is important to secure future skills.

It was also unanimously agreed that IT skills are needed in all sectors of society, not just in the IT industry.
The seminar, which was broadcast live, was discussed on Twitter and generated several blog posts.

Among others, Ulla Hamilton (M) and Ylva Johansson (S) blogged on the topic.
