IT + young entrepreneurs = true!

That IT is about business may be obvious to those in the industry, but not to all young people - yet. The idea that IT is mostly about programming in a basement is unfortunately still alive and well. Therefore, it is fun to present Malin Johansson, CEO of QuickFinder UF, a company that yesterday 19/3 won the award for best business plan at Young Enterprise Stockholm's fair Våga Vara Egen 2013. QuickFinder has developed a simple but ingenious solution where you keep track of key chains and other things that are easily lost via your mobile.
Malin, who is in her third year of social studies/economics at Sjödalsgymnasiet in Huddinge, has for a long time been thinking about the problem of gadgets that are easily lost and has therefore been the driving force behind QuickFinder. Together with her fellow UF students, she has looked into the technical solutions available and put them together in an affordable and easily accessible package.
As a girl and an economics student, what has it been like to invest in developing a technology-based service? "We have had a vision that we want to invent something new," Malin answers "Of course we have had to spend more time than if we just ordered a smart gadget and sold it on, but we have felt that we could succeed with something we really want!"
Malin's advice to girls who want to do something in the IT field: "If you want to succeed, you don't have to invent something new, but you can develop something that already exists, package it and then dare to believe in it."
Can we expect Malin herself to pursue a career in IT? We'll see: Her dream is to get into the Stockholm School of Economics, but a close second is Economics and IT at Stockholm University...
