IT&Telecom companies comment on the annulment of the Data Retention Directive by the European Court of Justice
IT&Telekomföretagen welcomes the ruling but notes that the Swedish law still applies. This situation puts operators in an unclear position, both in terms of the work that is underway to implement data storage in the networks, and in terms of the actual storage of data that is already taking place today.
Since the directive was adopted, IT&Telecom companies have worked to highlight both the privacy problems with the proposal and clarified that the handling causes major costs for the operators. Costs that ultimately affect the operators' customers, i.e. consumers.
IT&Telekomföretagen assumes that the government will quickly provide clarification on further handling so as not to impose further unnecessary costs on operators. The telecom operators have already incurred large costs for introducing data storage, investments that are now probably wasted. In order not to make the situation worse, it is therefore very important that the government provides clarifications without delay.
