All I want for Christmas is...
2014 was the year when everyone started talking about digitalization. Many see it as a new opportunity - but many also see digitization as a threat to jobs, personal integrity and participation. It's good that the debate is taking place, and our ambition for 2015 is to become more active in this debate, which is so important for the whole of Sweden.
2014 also saw the appointment of a new minister responsible for IT policy, Mehmet Kaplan. It is not yet entirely clear what policy he wants to pursue in this area. However, he has made it clear in various contexts that the main features of the previous government's strategies remain unchanged. "Stability is good, but there are certainly many reforms to be made for the future.
For this, Sweden needs an IT minister who puts these issues at the top of her agenda, on the entire government's agenda. Who obviously makes sure to follow up on the good initiatives taken by the previous government, but who also makes sure to take big steps forward and ensure that Sweden continues to be a leader in using IT to ensure welfare and achieve political goals for growth, democracy and climate improvements.
My best Christmas present would therefore be for digitization issues to be included in the debate before the new elections on March 22. Hope Santa is extra nice this year....
