A joyful package one month before Christmas

Today, Santa Claus brought an early package: the government has extended the mandate of the Digitalization Commission for another year, until 31 December 2016. "By extending the mandate of the Digitalization Commission, the government wants to ensure that the rapid structural transformation of society through digitalization brings all possible advantages and minimizes its disadvantages," says a commentary on the decision.

It is indeed gratifying that the government, in the end, realized that the vacuum that would have arisen if the Commission had not been given an extended mandate and thus dissolved at the end of the year, would have had a very negative impact on the ongoing digitization of Sweden.

Because digitization not only requires action, courage and political will, it also requires coordination. And this is where the Digitization Commission has played, and will continue to play, a major role in coordinating, prioritizing and driving forward the areas of digitization policy that are most important to Sweden.

Although the desire for a more long-term coordination model with, for example, a Digitization Authority similar to the Danish Digitization Board is still high on our wish list. Maybe something for the Easter Bunny to deliver...?
