Our digital lives are spread out in many different places - in our cameras, phones, tablets, computers, emails and, not least, in lots of different apps. The start-up Zynapp's business idea is to simplify and improve digital life and has now created an app for this very purpose.

- The target audience is all individuals who are digital. We, the users, have spread out our digital lives and so you don't really have the time, energy or desire to collect this. Because there is no easy way, or was, because now there is Zynapps app that does this for you. It becomes a smart storage solution," says Hanna Kjellman, Privacy and Legal Officer, Zynapp.

We meet Hanna Kjellman in connection with Nordic Tech Week, an event organized by IT&Telekomföretagen to create added value for Swedish digital start-ups, which took place earlier this autumn. Zynapp is one of the companies that participated in the event, much to get a broader platform to pursue their issues but also to approach the German market.

- In short, we want to reach out with our issues. To talk about data ownership and that personal data should always belong to the individual. At the same time, legislation must also be technology-friendly," says Hanna Kjellman.

She continues:

- Law and technology should not cancel each other out but rather go hand in hand. AI is a great tool, but it must be used responsibly and in the right way so that it serves the individual.

A digitally encrypted vault

Who really needs the Zynapps app?

- The app is aimed at you as a private person and becomes your private digital life with, for example, photos and your Spotify lists. Of course, you can also use Zynapp as a work tool and choose to connect only the apps that belong to your job, but that doesn't change the fact that Zynapp is still your private vault where only you have access to the content," says Hanna Kjellman.

Is it safe?

- Yes, it is. So we are talking about an encrypted vault.

Personal data as hard currency

Zynapp launched its app this spring. At the same time, there was a lively debate about the GDPR and its impact on EU citizens' online rights. Some time later, the Cambridge Analytica scandal broke and the issue of personal data security became news again.
- Obviously, all in all, this was a good launching pad. It became clear to many people how important personal privacy linked to the internet is and what value the actual personal data has. We are working on how to build both digitally and sustainably from a privacy perspective," says Hanna Kjellman.

Looking into the future, what trends do you see in technology development?

- It's about making the web more user-friendly while keeping it secure and transparent. In the future, I am convinced that more and more people will realize that personal data is hard currency and not something you just give up for free, you will start building technical solutions that are more user-friendly and at the same time sustainable from a privacy perspective, says Hanna Kjellman.
