TechSverige responds to the European Commission consultation on the Digital Services Act (DSA)
One of the European Commission's priorities during this mandate is a digital strategy called Europe Fit for the Digital Age. As part of the strategy, the Commission intends, among other things, to develop a Digital Services Act (DSA) with new and revised rules for digital services in the EU.
In particular, it concerns the responsibilities and obligations of so-called online platforms. Until now, there have been guarantees that the internet is kept open and that those who provide information and services are not held liable as their customers and users are. That this remains the case is of great importance for the Swedish tech sector and the member companies of IT&Telecom.
Reasons to proceed with caution
Another key issue in the DSA concerns competition law tools and proposals for ex-ante regulation of the digital market. There are also reasons to proceed with caution here.
- A review of the rules governing online digital services is warranted. But it must be done with great caution. Otherwise, we risk having a less well-functioning digital market with lower growth and less innovation as a result," says Pär Nygårds, business policy expert, IT&Telecom companies.
