Google - Sustainable energy for all
For example, Google is helping more than 500 cities and local governments reduce a combined 1 gigaton (one billion tons) of carbon emissions per year by 2030. Google has also used AI to help streamline wind turbines, urban transportation systems, and to map out how solar can be a sustainable and cost-effective investment for individual homeowners.
Google wants to use its knowledge and expertise to help and make things better. The fight against climate change is no exception. The science is clear: the world must act now if we are to avert the worst impacts of climate change.
Sustainability has been a core value of Google since its inception in 1998. At the end of its first decade, in 2007, Google was the first major company to be carbon neutral in its corporate operations. Since then, all searches, Gmail sent and YouTube videos streamed, have had zero carbon footprint from Google's data centers.
By the end of the second decade, Google became the largest corporate buyer of renewable energy in the world and the only company of its size to match 100% of Google's annual business electricity consumption with renewable energy - three years in a row. Now in its third decade, Google wants to go even further to build a carbon-free future for all.
By harnessing new technologies, investing in the right infrastructure and tools, and empowering partners, nonprofits, and people, Google can use its collective expertise to spread the use of and investment in sustainable energy. This could be the most crucial decade yet for tackling climate change. Google is proud to be part of that effort and to help bring the world closer to a low-carbon future for all and to reach the climate goal of sustainable energy for all.
