Number of companies in the tech sector
In May, IT&Telkomföretagen presented the report Tech is Sweden's new basic industry, which shows that the tech industry has established itself as a new base for the Swedish economy.
The number of firms in the tech sector increased by around 8200 between 2010 and 2018, representing an increase of 18%. This is higher than the growth of firms in the business sector as a whole, which stood at 16% over the same period. In total, the tech sector contained just over 51 500 firms in 2018, accounting for around 4.5% of the total number of firms in 2018. The main growth has been in the software and IT services sector, which accounted for around 95% of all new firms.
