Beatrice Silow new chair of the IT Skills Council
- As a freshly graduated engineer, it was incredible to get my first job at a technology-driven and large company like Ericsson. It was a fantastic start that strengthened my interest in technology and I have been hooked ever since," says Beatrice Silow and continues:
- Over the years, I have had many different roles as a leader and today I am Head of Communications and Culture at the tech company Nexer where I have the privilege of working with amazing people every day and helping to drive the company forward. With responsibility for branding, marketing, culture and value work, which also includes a great CSR commitment, I face new exciting challenges and opportunities every day and I am passionate about making a difference. Both for employees and colleagues but also for society at large. I want the world to be a little better every day and I want to be involved and contribute with what I can. No one can do everything but everyone can do something.
How you became interested in IT skills issues?
- Digitization is the future and the opportunities are fantastic, but at the same time I see that many people are afraid of the area and that is something I would like to change. I want to show how interesting and rewarding it is to work in the industry and what it is you do in the tech / IT area. That you have incredible fun at work and are involved in developing the solutions of the future. The fact that we then have such a great shortage of the right skills means that the issue becomes very central to the company management and hence the interest in the daily work. Why have you become involved in the IT Skills Council?
- The IT Skills Council makes an important and fantastic contribution and drives important industry issues that benefit the whole of Sweden. For us as a company, it is important to have the opportunity to be involved in such a context to influence and for me personally, the issue of skills and gender equality are some of my favorite issues.
What issues do you think will be in focus in 2022?
- As I see it, two of the most crucial factors affecting the whole industry and the whole society are sustainability and digitalization and there the issue of competence comes in as an important factor. I hope that this will be in focus even if 2022 is an election year and the debate will be steered very much based on that. My hope is that people will look up and see that in order to contribute to change and a better future, we need to have the right skills. This is extremely important for Sweden as a nation, as it is crucial if we are to remain a leader in tech/IT, but also in innovation and the technology areas of the future.
