Chemical and biotechnology attract highest share of women

In 2020, 62% of new entrants to chemical and bioengineering MSc programs were women, the highest figure of all for IT degrees. Other IT programs with a high proportion of women are Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with 57% and Computer and Systems Science with 49%.

One of the most common occupations among IT graduates is software and systems developer, but the share of women in this occupation is only 19%. Similar inequalities exist for support technicians, operations technicians and mechanical engineers. For chemical and biotechnology engineering occupations, the share of women is almost 50%.
