In TechSverige's article series Hej vd (Hello CEO), we focus on the decision on an independent TechSverige and the development of the tech industry. Board member Tomas Frimmel, CEO of Microsoft Sweden, sees a great need to support and educate Swedish legislators and decision-makers about AI.

TechSverige recently presented the report Swedish tech industry 2023, which shows that tech companies continue to contribute strongly to the Swedish economy and society. How do you see the development and future of the tech industry?

- I am convinced that we have a very important role to play in society. Together, we must help to drive a new wave of Swedish innovation and smart technology so that Sweden, our companies and our citizens can strengthen their competitiveness and be better equipped for the future. And as an industry, we are not only tasked with inspiring and driving this change, it is also our responsibility to ensure that it happens in a responsible way with the best interests of society in focus," says Tommas Frimmel.

TechSverige's board has decided to leave the current collaboration with Almega; in what way do you think an independent TechSverige will be able to deliver increased member benefits to its member companies?

- Developments in the tech industry and its impact on the Swedish economy mean that a deeper focus on its members is focal and my strong belief is that an independent TechSverige has the best conditions for driving the industry's core issues forward for a stronger Sweden. 

- Looking ahead, how do you see TechSverige in 5-7 years? What position does the association have in the public debate and what role does it play for all of Sweden's tech companies?

- With the AI development taking place and the ongoing digitalization of society, I believe TechSverige has an even bigger and stronger role to play in the Swedish debate going forward. There is a great need to support and educate Swedish legislators and decision-makers around AI, both the opportunities and the challenges so that the right decisions can be made at the right time - here I think TechSverige has an important role to play.
