People in tech: Johan Vesterberg, Transtema
In TechSweden's article series People in Tech, we focus on people with HR roles in member companies. Johan Vesterberg has been Senior HR Business Partner at Transtema for three years.
"In my role, I have overall responsibility for personnel and labor law issues in the areas I support from north to south; everything from personnel planning and management development to negotiation and interpretation of laws and agreements. What I particularly enjoy at Transtema, apart from my HR colleagues, is the variety and freedom I feel under responsibility. The fact that I have a great opportunity to influence and that the work I do has a real impact is important and motivating for me, says Johan Vesterberg.
What issues are at the top of the agenda right now?
– Right now, our company is in a transition phase where we are broadening and restructuring our business portfolio, which places great demands on both managers and the organization. For me and the rest of the HR team, this means we really get to use our entire toolbox, as the job currently places high demands on both developing and coaching managers in leadership, as well as transforming the organization with all that this entails in terms of negotiations and process updates.
What do you think is important for leadership?
– I have worked in HR for more than 20 years in various roles, both internationally and nationally, and I would say that regardless of company or country, the same things are important. People generally have the same need to be noticed, treated fairly, and want to achieve something regardless of where they work and in what role. As a manager, I believe you should therefore spend a lot of time and energy on being present and listening, but without compromising on setting requirements or having the courage to lead your employees with clarity.
What is the best thing about working in the tech industry?
– That it is constantly evolving and never stagnates.
What advantages do you see in Transtema's membership of TechSverige?
– Access to professional support in the form of both the Employer's Guide and, not least, the opportunity to discuss complex labor law issues with skilled labor lawyers. It is also rewarding to have the opportunity to meet and network with people who work in the same industry.
