TechSweden's Chief Economist on the budget: Reforms to boost growth, productivity and education welcomed

Government's fall budget gets a positive reception from TechSweden's chief economist. Investments in growth, productivity and education are important to strengthen Sweden's competitiveness, where the tech industry plays a crucial role. TechSverige emphasizes the need for a continued high pace of reform to meet global challenges and drive innovation where more offensive investments in digitalization, welfare and sustainability are required.

The government's budget proposal, which was submitted to the Riksdag today, is a budget at a time when Sweden is still in a recession but where recovery is just around the corner. The main direction outlined includes reforms to boost growth, productivity and education.

- This is a direction that TechSverige welcomes. Sweden is facing major structural challenges such as an ageing population, skills shortages, and a failure to make better use of the opportunities offered by digitalization," says Christina Ramm-Ericson, Chief Economist at TechSverige.

The tech industry has quickly become an important part of the Swedish economy, with solutions and services generating growth and productivity in all sectors. But given the fluidity of the tech industry - and especially its global nature - it's impossible to sit back.

- The Government needs to continue along this path with more concrete reforms and a high pace of reform processes to solve the major societal challenges and strengthen Swedish competitiveness. We are already halfway through the mandate period! For Sweden to be able to take advantage of the opportunities of digitization and lead the development, offensive investments are needed in digitization, welfare and sustainability. We hope to see these in the upcoming research and innovation bill, as well as as a result of the AI Commission and the upcoming digitization strategy. It is crucial that we keep up with the rapid technological development globally, says Christina Ramm-Ericson.

TechSverige has previously commented on and welcomed several initiatives that the organization and member companies have worked for. These include an increase in the research budget, a reduction in the level of compensation for expert tax, investment in civil defense and information and cyber security, and strengthened work on talent attraction in 2025.
