Initiative to match asylum seekers with IT backgrounds into the IT industry launched

Today, a kick-off meeting was held at IT&Telekomföretagen, where representatives from about 15 IT companies discussed concrete activities to match asylum seekers with an IT background into the companies. As a result, the initiative will follow two tracks: the creation of a digital platform where asylum seekers with an IT background can post their profiles, and the implementation of a pilot matching activity in collaboration with the Migration Agency. The aim is to have completed the above by February 2016

Today, December 22, 2015, a start-up meeting was held at IT&Telekomföretagen, where representatives from about 15 IT companies discussed concrete activities to match asylum seekers with an IT background into the companies. The Migration Agency and a number of other stakeholders in the field also attended the meeting.

As a result, the initiative will now follow two tracks:

  1. The creation of some kind of digital platform, probably in cooperation with LinkedIn and its Nordic organization, where asylum seekers with an IT background and working English skills are encouraged to post their profiles.
  2. The implementation of a pilot matching activity in cooperation with the Migration Agency, where a specific category of IT or telecom skills is selected where the Migration Agency assesses that there is a sufficient number of candidates among the asylum seekers.

The aim is to have implemented the above by February 2016.

Anyone who wants to participate in some way, preferably by taking asylum seekers into their own company or organization, is welcome to follow the LinkedIn group Matching IT asylum seekers in spring 2016. Members of IT&Telekomföretagen (including network members) are welcome to join the organization's IT skills council where both issues related to foreign-born and other activities linked to the IT skills shortage are discussed and implemented
