Connected cinnamon bun
Cinnamon buns have been kneaded and baked for almost a hundred years. But it wasn't until the 1950s that the bun was given a place on the coffee table. An obvious part of the bun baking process is the oven.
IT&Telecom member Prevas offers and develops products and services that, among other things, take advantage of the opportunities offered by digitization - with the hope of helping customers to stand strong in a world of global competition. In collaboration with the Danish oven manufacturer Hounö, they have developed the control system for ovens used in hotels, restaurants, shopping centers and the like. Thanks to new technology, the ovens can do more than just heat food.
- The idea was born in an existing collaboration with Hounö. There was a need to get better at preventive maintenance, maintaining the customer relationship and getting data to improve the products, says Jens Barkvall, Consulting Manager with focus on Internet of Things and digitalization.
Internet of Things
Users of the ovens can order accessories and consumables directly in the system and get an early indication if any part needs replacing. Another feature is the ability to share recipes or other information in the system.
- This allows chefs and bakers, for example, to focus on their core tasks instead of worrying about whether the oven is working," says Jens Barkvall.
Jens Barkvall is optimistic about the future and points out that developments are moving fast.
- "Components are becoming more powerful, easier to use and product owners are now more inclined to use the Internet of Things in their products," he says.
Do you think systems like yours will become more common in ovens and for baking cinnamon buns?

"Absolutely, the trend in industry is clear. In order to further streamline operations, new technology is needed to shorten lead times and provide better service to customers and users," says Jens Barkvall.
