- We know that many companies in the sector are desperate for skills, across the board and at the top. This is perhaps one of the biggest challenges facing the industry. Our own figures say that there will be a shortage of 70,000 IT experts by 2022 and many member companies testify that they are losing business due to a lack of people with relevant IT skills. It is not enough that only one in three employees in the industry today is a woman - more women need to be inspired and engaged to want to work in our sector," says Christina Ramm-Ericson, Head of Industrial Policy at IT&Telecomföretagen.

- Moreover, the pace of change is far too slow. At the current rate, the girl born today, on March 8, 2020, could look forward to working in an equal industry on the day she turns 20. "We need to step up the pace of gender equality work and show that the industry is an industry of the future for everyone, women and men alike, otherwise the companies of the future risk missing out on the necessary skills," says Christina.

Companies in the Womentor program clearly better than average at gender equality

There are positive examples of where things are moving a little faster. As a step in attracting female talent to the industry, IT&Telekomföretagen runs the Womentor change and leadership program.

- "We can see that companies that are involved in Womentor, that have the will and ambition to work in a structured way with goal management and follow-up of gender equality and inclusion, are also better at gender equality than the average. This is shown not least by this year's JÄMIX measurement," says Christina.

JÄMIX is an index developed by the Nyckeltalsinstitutet that describes gender equality in the organization based on nine quantitative key figures regarding current working conditions for men and women.

The 18 Womentor companies that participated in the JÄMIX survey have a median score of 134, which can be compared with 120 points, which was the median for all participants (over 370 Swedish companies and organizations in all industries).
