"If you are curious, you can go far"

If you are curious as a person, interested in digitalization and have a hunger to learn, you can go far in the industry. This is according to Mimmi Holm, Sales Manager at Blocket, which is one of this year's host companies for Womentor, the IT&Telecom companies' change and gender equality program, and is working hard to promote female employees and get more women interested in the tech industry.

How did you end up in the tech industry?

- By pure coincidence. I've always worked for companies that offer services, and I've found digital services in particular particularly interesting. The scalability and digitization we are in the middle of is so incredibly exciting in every way - and tech is an essential part of it of course. I am an economist at heart and find it extra fun to work at a tech company where I daily learn more about how everything in the products works, and hope that I can contribute with a business and customer experience perspective, says Mimmi Holm.

What is the best thing about working at Blocket?

- Definitely the people. You spend most of the day with your colleagues and I feel lucky to spend it with so many nice and smart people.

Do you have any advice for young people who want to enter the tech industry?

- Be curious and try to keep up to date with what is happening in the industry. We are in constant change and it is important to keep up. Dare to ask questions and try to find a mentor to talk to and learn from. My general tip is to try to find a company with a good corporate culture and sound values.

What do you think is the best thing about the tech industry?

- Things are happening all the time, both in the industry but also in society in general, where we can influence and, above all, enable so much for both companies and individuals. Take, for example, that every time something is sold via Blocket, I know that we have made something possible for two parties: we get a happy seller who gets to sell his product and a happy buyer who bought something new. This would not have been possible to the same extent if we didn't have the technology to make it possible - there are over 500,000 items on Blocket every day. How cool is that?

What opportunities and challenges do you see in the sector?

- As many people know, the tech industry is male-dominated. But it is boring to stare blindly at it and I really think that the industry has taken big steps and developed in recent years. We girls can influence and have good opportunities in the industry, but precisely because of the pace and development, you have to like fast pucks - regardless of whether you are a man or a woman. If you are curious as a person, interested in digitization and have a hunger to learn, you can go far in the industry.
