Re-skilling to meet labor market needs
KTH Royal Institute of Technology recently hosted a webinar to discuss the role of re-skilling in meeting the skills needs of the labor market. From TechSverige, Association Director Åsa Zetterberg and Ana Andric, Industrial Policy Expert, participated in a panel discussion. The panel discussed the changing needs of the labor market, lifelong learning models and best practices in reskilling.
TechSverige particularly emphasized that:
- Strong short- and long-term efforts are needed to attract more people to take an interest in, train for, and move into jobs in the tech sector.
- Digitization must permeate the entire education chain, from primary school to higher education.
- Skills development initiatives are needed for those already in the sector, and more people need to be encouraged to make a career change into the sector. This can be achieved through short and complementary training courses, flexible training arrangements and special admission tracks in universities and universities of applied sciences.
- Strengthen the role of higher education in lifelong learning with dedicated resources.
- Introduce tech checks to increase individuals' incentives to improve their digital skills
- Making it easier for businesses to invest in their staff through a skills tax credit.
