TechSverige welcomes the government's investment in a Swedish cyber campus

Cyber attacks and cyber espionage are a growing security challenge for Sweden. To counter these threats, it is vital that the government takes measures to strengthen our ability to prevent, detect and manage cyber attacks and other IT incidents. Increased competence in information and cyber security is therefore necessary.

- The government's proposal to establish Cybercampus Sweden at KTH is an important step in the right direction to strengthen our national capabilities in information and cyber security. We look forward to working with government agencies and other stakeholders to develop this campus and promote research and education in the field. It is good that the government has listened to the industry, both in terms of the need for education and research and the importance of including the business community in Cybercampus Sweden," says Fredrik Sand, industry policy expert at TechSverige.

TechSverige's IT skills shortage 2020 report highlights the acute shortage of skilled labor in the tech sector. By 2024, there is predicted to be a shortage of 70,000 IT specialists, and this shortage is particularly acute in areas related to information and cyber security.

- "There is a great need for skills in information and cyber security, and IT security experts are one of the most sought-after occupational categories," says Ana Andric, Industry Policy Expert at TechSverige.

TechSverige wrote in the report Techbranschens förslag för att möta cyberhoten that the government must prioritize research and education at a higher level as the current supply is limited. TechSverige also pointed out that one of the government's most important contributions to increased security is to reduce the skills shortage in the area. The government's investment in Cybercampus Sweden at KTH is therefore a step in the right direction to meet ever greater security challenges and strengthen the country's ability to meet the increasing cyber threats. Cybercampus Sweden will be a national collaboration between several universities, research institutes, authorities and companies throughout Sweden. Kungl. Tekniska högskolan (KTH) currently has a Center for Cyber Defense and Information Security (CDIS) that links research and education in information and cyber security.
