“Students quickly get to grips with the work”

TechSverige has launched an initiative aimed at encouraging more employers to offer so-called LIA internships to students in IT programs at vocational colleges. The initiative aims to strengthen the supply of skilled workers and improve the alignment between education and the labor market.

Hosting LIA students has become an important part of Jirango’s talent acquisition strategy. By allowing students to get involved in real-world projects early on, the company has the opportunity to both develop and evaluate future employees—while the students gain valuable real-world experience.

“It’s a convenient way to test future employees in a real-world setting,” says Michael Westerberg, CEO and co-founder of Jirango. He describes how LIA (Learning in the Workplace), the vocational college internship program, enables students to quickly become part of the team and start contributing to real-world tasks. For the company, this means not only additional resources but also close collaboration with educational programs, where they can influence the curriculum based on industry needs—something that benefits both students and employers.
